Partner and Head of the Competition Law Department at SRS Advogados – one of the leading Portuguese law firms -, having previously been a Partner at Simmons & Simmons. Gonçalo is currently President of the Competition Commission of ICC Portugal and a Non-Governmental Advisor to the ICN. Both Gonçalo and the Competition Law Department are consistently ranked in the top band for competition law by the top reference directories such as Chambers and Legal 500.
Gonçalo studied at the universities of Coimbra, Sorbonne and Lisbon (Clássica) - where he taught EU, Competition and Regulatory law (undergraduate and post-graduate) -, and worked in Genoa and London. He is a founding member of the Circle of Portuguese Competition Lawyers and was part of the first group of lawyers to be awarded the title of Specialist in Competition Law by the Portuguese Law Society.
Gonçalo is a regular speaker at international conferences and author of a wide number of publications on competition law including being the Editor for the Energy sector of the Review of the Portuguese Competition Authority and Co-editor of reference works including a Commentary on the Portuguese Competition Act (Portuguese language) and also a Commentary on the European Treaties (Portuguese and English languages).
